Job Description
Position: Technical Manager
Salary: $90,000 to $95,000 + Superannuation
Hours: 38
Mode: Full-Time
Location: Wakool River, Kyalite, NSW
Experience Required: 3 years of relevant experience

At Kyalite Pistachios, we've been leading the Australian pistachio industry since 1983, growing to become one of the largest orchards in the country. Located along the Wakool River in Kyalite, NSW, we’re proud of our close-knit community and our commitment to world-class quality and production. With 450 hectares of pistachio trees, including 370 hectares harvested in the 2024-25 season, we’ve continually expanded, most recently in 2016.
Our success is driven by staying ahead of the latest production techniques and technologies, ensuring we maintain and improve production efficiencies. With a small management team, we foster clear communication and quick decision-making, creating a positive and collaborative culture that’s often hard to achieve in larger operations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operations & Maintenance
• Manage tissue and soil analysis programs, and assist with planning fertiliser inputs
• Review, analyse, and report on real time data coming from all machinery operations
• Report and maximise benefit from AgCommander farm records
• Liaise with the Operations Manager and workshop to ensure maintenance schedules are met
Technical & Administration Support
• Collate technical data, review AgCommander operations software, and prepare reports and recommendations
• Design and implement on farm field trials, and liaise with Pistachio Growers Association where necessary
• Conduct on farm yield comparisons, and review industry benchmarking, to maximise productivity and efficiency
• Investigate future opportunities such as solar power, use of ground water, carbon monitoring and sustainable farming
Irrigation Support
• Review monitoring data from field devices, test wells, aerial survey data, and assist the Irrigation Manager with scheduling
• Audit and report water use data on a monthly and seasonal basis
• Set parameters for monitoring hydraulic performance and hygiene of irrigation systems
• Assist with improving efficiency and optimizing water use where possible
Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science or a tertiary qualification in horticulture, viticulture or a related discipline is essential
Other Skills, Experience and Requirements
• Previous experience in the provision of technical services in a horticulture, viticulture, or irrigated crop production environment, with specific technical knowledge in pistachio cultivation.
• A high level of knowledge relating to agronomic and production practices of horticulture/irrigated crops
• Ability to establish and coordinate an effective monitoring and data collection program in a horticulture/agriculture production environment
• Highly developed verbal and written communication abilities
• Experience in preparing and presenting information and reports, which are of appropriate quality for the target audience
• Exposure to quality assurance systems
• Knowledge of approaches and processes for undertaking agricultural production benchmarking
• Advanced level of computer literacy, previous experience using MS Office
• Strong ability to plan and coordinate multiple projects with competing timelines
• Ability to effectively represent the company at industry functions, field days and other forums
• Must have current work rights in Australia
