Mygration is engaged by our client based in Arundel, QLD, 4212 to recruit a skilled candidate for the following position: Cabinet Maker/Carpenter with a base salary starting from $76,540 to $87,000 depending on skill level.
Our client, a well-established woodworking and cabinetry business, is seeking a Skilled Cabinet Maker/Carpenter to join their team in Arundel. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fine woodworking, cabinetry, and furniture making, with the ability to work on both custom residential projects and commercial fit outs. You will be responsible for crafting high-quality, precision-built cabinetry, furniture, and fittings while adhering to technical specifications and design requirements.
DUTIES:
Project Planning & Interpretation
• Review technical drawings, work orders, and sample components to determine project specifications.
• Accurately measure, mark, and plan material requirements for efficient fabrication.
Material Selection & Preparation
• Select and work with a variety of materials, including solid timber, veneers, MDF, particle board, and engineered wood products.
• Ensure materials are cut, shaped, and prepared to exact measurements with minimal waste.
Machinery Operation & CNC Programming
• Operate and maintain woodworking machinery, including saws, planers, routers, and sanders.
• Program and oversee CNC machines and CAD/CAM software for precision cutting, shaping, and engraving of components.
Cabinet & Furniture Construction
• Construct custom kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom vanities, and commercial fit outs from start to finish.
• Build high-end furniture, frames (for chairs/couches), and reproduction pieces with meticulous craftsmanship.
• Assemble components using joinery techniques (dovetail, mortise-and-tenon, biscuit, etc.) for durability and aesthetics.
Installation & Finishing
• Install cabinetry and built-in furniture on-site, ensuring seamless integration with existing structures.
• Apply protective finishes (varnish, lacquer, paint, or stain) to enhance durability and appearance.
• Fit and align hardware (hinges, locks, drawer slides, handles) for smooth functionality.
Specialty Fabrication
• Craft custom fittings for boats, caravans, and architectural millwork where precision is critical.
• Restore or replicate antique and reproduction furniture as required.
Quality Control & Compliance
• Inspect completed work to ensure it meets design specifications and quality standards.
• Follow workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations at all times.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Certification: Certificate III in Cabinet Making / Carpentry or higher (essential).
• Experience: Minimum 2+ years in cabinet making, furniture making, or high-end carpentry.
• Technical Skills:
o Proficiency in CNC operation and CAD software (highly regarded).
o Strong knowledge of joinery, finishing techniques, and material properties.
• Soft Skills:
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
o Capable of working under pressure to meet deadlines.
o Excellent communication skills (able to liaise with clients, designers, and tradespeople).
