Are you detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about numbers? Join our growing team as an Accountant, where you'll play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Manage a portfolio of corporate and personal insolvency cases (e.g., voluntary administrations, liquidations, receiverships, bankruptcies, restructuring), ensuring accurate documentation, timely progression, and compliance with statutory obligations.
• Conduct financial investigations into company and individual affairs, including the analysis of financial transactions, potential breaches of corporate regulations, and suspected fraud.
• Prepare detailed financial and investigative reports for creditors, courts, and regulatory bodies (e.g., ASIC, AFSA), including assessments of solvency, asset positions, and director conduct.
• Support the preparation of financial statements for presentation to stakeholders such as boards, creditors, and regulators, ensuring accuracy and compliance with statutory and professional accounting standards.
• Assist in examining income, expenditure, and operating costs of distressed entities to inform restructuring plans, budget formulation, and turnaround strategies.
• Oversee and support asset realisation processes, including business and asset sales, and provide input into funding strategies, creditor negotiations, and cash flow management.
• Provide financial and taxation advice on insolvency outcomes, business structures, and restructuring options in collaboration with supervisor.
• Prepare and assist in reviewing taxation returns (e.g., GST, PAYG, income tax) for individuals and entities subject to formal appointments.
• Liaise professionally with directors, employees, creditors, solicitors, and financial institutions, including engaging with brokers and fund managers on financial arrangements and asset recovery.
• Assist in maintaining internal control systems and improving the use of insolvency and accounting software, contributing to efficient workflow and compliance tracking.
• Contribute to the implementation and enhancement of accounting systems and processes, advising on their suitability and effectiveness in insolvency contexts.
• Appraise financial risk and cash flow projections to support asset recovery strategies and stakeholder reporting.
• Support business development initiatives, foster strong client relationships, and contribute to marketing activities and proposals.
• Supervise junior staff on smaller engagements and provide mentoring in line with professional development objectives.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Other Skills and Requirements:
• CA or CPA qualification (or working towards completion).
• Typically over 2 years’ experience in insolvency, restructuring, or a related accounting field.
• Strong knowledge of Australian insolvency legislation and corporate restructuring practices.
• Proficiency in software such as Insol6, MYOB AE, FYI Docs, PowerBi highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
• Strong communication skills with a high level of emotional intelligence.
• Open to points of view that differ to your own and the ability to be agile when required.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
