Salary range: $76,515 - $80,000 - depending on skills level and work experience + superannuation.

Our client is a leading engineering firm specialising in innovative steel fabrication, structural engineering, and advanced mechanical solutions. With a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors, they pride themselves on precision, efficiency, and cutting-edge design.
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join their dynamic team. In this role, you will work closely with Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists to support the design, fabrication, and installation of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with hands-on experience in mechanical assemblies, hydraulic systems, and precision engineering.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting Support
• Prepare detailed technical drawings, plans, and 3D models for mechanical systems, ensuring alignment with engineering specifications and client requirements.
• Assist in the design and development of mechanical equipment, plant layouts, and hydraulic power systems using CAD and industry-standard software.
Fabrication & Installation
• Assemble, install, and modify mechanical components, machine tools, and control systems, with a focus on steel fabrication and structural integrity.
• Select and procure appropriate tools, materials, and equipment, ensuring cost-efficiency and adherence to project timelines.
Testing & Quality Assurance
• Conduct field and laboratory tests to evaluate system performance, collecting and analysing data to optimise mechanical functionality.
• Supervise inspections and maintenance of machinery and plant equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and engineering standards.
Project Coordination & Compliance
• Estimate material costs, quantities, and machine requirements to support project budgeting and resource planning.
• Verify that all designs and completed works meet contractual obligations, industry regulations, and quality benchmarks.

Skills & Experience Required
• Qualifications: Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field.
• Experience: 1+ years in a mechanical engineering technician role, preferably within steel fabrication, industrial plant, or heavy machinery sectors.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and mechanical troubleshooting.
• Analytical Skills: Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, perform calculations, and generate reports.
• Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, fabricators, and project managers.
