Job Description
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily animal health assessment program.
Perform veterinary rounds and provide clinical care and preventive medicine support.
Conduct surgical support, anesthesia, and analgesic procedures.
Perform pre-shipment physical examinations of animals for delivery, including radiographic review, ultrasonography, and ECG evaluations.
Manage the training program for veterinary technicians/staff, ensuring documentation and updates.
Oversee the Environmental Enhancement program for NHPs.
Provide guidance on animal health care to veterinary services personnel.
Prepare and submit internal and external reports and materials as required.
Respond to internal/external inspections and quality audits related to veterinary or animal welfare.
Implement and monitor the preventive health program tailored to site needs.
Advise management on technical matters, including new technology and regulatory changes affecting animal care and use.
Assist in overseeing quarantine and animal holding programs, including vendor management and colony health.
Support Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) activities, including protocol review and facility inspections.
Ensure compliance with regulations related to animal welfare and veterinary issues.
May serve as Veterinarian of Record (Attending Veterinarian).
Write, review, and update veterinary care and necropsy SOPs.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Veterinary degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) required.
Minimum of 6 years veterinary experience in an NHP environment, with 2 years supervisory/management experience preferred.
Licensure to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U.S. state, with ability to become licensed in Texas within 6 months.
USDA accreditation or application within 1 month of hire; ability to obtain DEA license within 6 months, current DEA license highly desired.
ACLAM eligibility or accreditation highly desired.
Proficiency with Microsoft Windows, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines governing animal research, research conduct principles, and current laboratory animal medicine and management methodologies.
Work experience
Minimum of 7 years and maximum of 20 years
Must-have qualifications
Veterinary degree (D.V.M./V.M.D.) required.
Veterinary experience in an NHP environment
2 years supervisory/management experience
Knowledge of animal research, research conduct principles, and current laboratory animal medicine and management methodologies.
