About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Agricultural & Horticultural Mobile Plant Operator to join a large-scale, progressive farming enterprise in Western Australia. This role is critical to supporting a mixed farming operation that includes broadacre cropping, livestock production, and emerging horticultural and tree crop initiatives. The successful candidate will operate a variety of mobile plant machinery across multiple properties, contributing to sustainable land management and efficient farm operations.
This position is ideal for a skilled operator who is mechanically minded, safety-focused, and comfortable working across diverse agricultural settings—from cropping paddocks to livestock stations. You will play a key role in maintaining and optimising farm productivity while adhering to regenerative farming principles.
Key Responsibilities:
Machine Operation & Site Work:
• Safely transport and operate mobile plant machinery (e.g., tractors, loaders, excavators, spray rigs) across broadacre cropping, livestock, and horticultural sites.
• Manoeuvre equipment efficiently in varied terrain, including paddocks, irrigation zones, and newly developed horticultural blocks.
• Assist with land preparation, seeding, fertiliser application, and crop maintenance in alignment with sustainable farming practices.
Attachment Handling & Precision Work:
• Select, fit, and operate specialised attachments (e.g., slashers, seeder, front-end loaders, post drivers) for tasks such as feed preparation, fencing, and soil conditioning.
• Adjust hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic controls to ensure precise operation of implements—critical for tasks like controlled traffic farming (CTF) and pasture renovation.
• Support livestock operations by handling hay baling, silage compaction, and feed-out machinery.
Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance:
• Conduct pre-start checks, monitor gauges/telematics, and perform routine servicing (e.g., greasing, fluid top-ups, filter changes) to maintain machinery performance.
• Diagnose minor mechanical issues, carry out basic repairs, and report major faults to maintenance teams promptly.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and manufacturer guidelines for all equipment.
Team Collaboration & Autonomous Work:
• Coordinate with farm supervisors, agronomists, and livestock teams to prioritise tasks such as irrigation, weed control, or infrastructure projects.
• Work independently during remote operations (e.g., fence-line repairs, paddock grading) while maintaining clear communication with managers.
• Participate in seasonal projects, including potential horticultural expansion (e.g., orchard establishment, vineyard development).
Essential Requirements:
• Relevant Qualification + minimum 1 year of full-time experience operating mobile plant in farming environments.
• Proficiency with tractors, loaders, and attachments; familiarity with precision agriculture tools (e.g., GPS guidance) is advantageous.
• Strong adherence to WorkSafe standards and farm-specific safety protocols.
• Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working long hours during peak seasons (e.g., harvest, seeding).
• Willingness to contribute to a collaborative farming operation with a focus on regenerative agriculture and land stewardship.
Desirable Attributes:
• Experience in broadacre cropping (wheat, barley, canola) or livestock support operations (feed logistics, pasture management).
• Exposure to horticultural machinery (e.g., vine pruners, harvesters) or interest in diversifying into tree crops.
• HR/MR truck licence (for machinery relocation between properties).
Why Apply?
• Join a forward-thinking enterprise investing in sustainable land use and diversified farming systems.
• Varied role spanning cropping, livestock, and emerging horticulture—no two days are the same!
How to Apply:
Submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your machinery experience and suitability for mixed farming operations.
