Global Vision Recruitment on Behalf of Nizams Catering Unit Trust T/A Nizam Indian Restaurant

Position: Chef
Salary: $77,000 per annum plus 12% superannuation
Hours: 38
Mode: Full-time
Location: 5/520 Victoria Street, North Melbourne VIC 3051
Experience required: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Chef with a strong background in Indian cuisine, particularly in preparing signature dishes such as Hyderabadi Biryani and Haleem. The ideal candidate will possess the culinary expertise, leadership qualities, and commitment to excellence required to maintain high standards of food quality, hygiene, and kitchen efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
• Preparation, cooking and presentation of meals especially Hyderabadi Biryani and Haleem (specialty dishes from Hyderabad).
• Prepare other Indian cuisines offered on the menu.
• Keep food preparation at the right level.
• Monitor food production to ensure consistent quality and portion size.
• Ensure that quality dishes are served on schedule.
• Approve all prepared food items that leave kitchen.
• Modify and create new menus as needed so that they remain effective for the purposes for the restaurant.
• Ensure the kitchen team works together to get all the orders right and get them out promptly.
• Help with recruitment of kitchen staff including cooks.
• Ensure any problems that arise in the kitchen are rectified and reported to management.
• Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure conformance to established standards.

Qualifications:
• A relevant AQF level qualification
• Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or similar training is a plus (preferred but not required)

Skills required for the position:
• Must have extensive knowledge of the ingredients required in preparing Indian cuisines and a minimum 1 year of relevant experience
• Keen interest in food and cooking
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Ability to work under pressure
• High standards of cleanliness and hygiene
• Ability to do several tasks at once
• Creativity and imagination for food presentation
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Good organisation skills.
