Role
The Food Forum is currently seeking a qualified and experienced Butcher to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing, cutting, trimming, and displaying a variety of meat products in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations. This role requires technical expertise in butchering, strong attention to detail, and the ability to deliver excellent customer service in a busy retail environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Prepare, cut, trim, bone, roll, tie, and grind meats such as beef, lamb, pork, and poultry to prepare meat in cooking form.
• Weigh, wrap, label, and display cuts of meat for retail sale.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the work area, tools, and equipment according to food safety regulations.
• Monitor stock levels, rotate inventory, and ensure quality of meat is preserved.
• Advise customers on the selection, storage, and preparation of meat products.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations in all aspects of meat handling and storage.
• Receive, inspect, and store meat upon delivery to ensure product quality and consistency.
• Make sausages, mince meat, and prepare other smallgoods when required.
• Sharpen and adjust knives and cutting equipment as needed.
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and service delivery.
Skills and Qualifications
• AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3).
• Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience as a Butcher in a retail or wholesale environment.
• Excellent knife skills and in-depth knowledge of meat cuts and preparation methods.
• Strong understanding of hygiene and food safety requirements.
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment and independently when required.
• Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
• Flexibility to work across weekdays, weekends, and public holidays.
Salary: $73,150 - $78,000
